Rignt now it sports the 1399 shoulder stock, of course, a .177cal 24"barrel that's
been cut down to 18" and re-crowned, a 1389 backpacker forearm, a
homebrew trigger sear, a Crosman steel breech and bolt for the .177 cal barrel,

I had dissassembled one of the two new Crosman 1377s that Tom had brought me and
swapped over the steel breech, 18" barrel, 1399 stock and most of the custom parts
from the old 1377 Carbine. So I had an up-to-date, nifty new-looking
Carbine and an assortment of parts left over. Enough parts with what
I had left over from modding the original 1377 to bastardize together a
working shooter. When the hodgepodge of parts was assembled I had a stock-looking
air pistol with a very nicely modded valve and a sweet trigger
pull. |

Or: "How my airgun collection went from 10 guns to 9 in one short shooting session." |
Edna's Custom Crosman 1377 |

This sketch of a sight picture and about 5 minutes of explanation got her started.
She realy surprized me. I put her at 5 meters and showed her how
to cock the gun first (ultralight valve spring) then pump then load stressing
safety and doing what I could to keep her feeling comfortable and relaxed
with the whole experience. |
I started her out on a big sheet of paper with a small bull's eye in the center.
After the first low shot I mentioned above she proceeded to blow the hell
out of the cener bull. I couldn't believe it. she was shooting better
than me. She was doing so |
Photo shamelessly stolen from Pyramydair |
Edna has shot my Gamo Compact and my IZH M-46 before but she has not been able to
cock and load either of them by herself. I showed her once with the
Crosman 1377 and then walked her through it once and after that she had no problems
loading and shooting the pistol. Keep in mind this gun has a super-light
valve spring and adjustable steel piston that is set very light. |
Here's the result. The larger paper is the first one she shot. You can
see the first shot is low. Then I swear she put about 4 of them in dead
center and when we switched over to the |
well that we switched over to my regular sized targets. 2 3/4" x 4 1/4".
Her first shot touched center white. I think the grin you
see is when I told her she was out-shooting her bana. Well my story is that
her progress was so good because of the quality of the instruction. |
It has a quick pump arm dissassembly and no saftety. I checked it all over
and took it out for a shoot to see how it would perform. I got it sighted
in at 10 meters and ran some pellets throug it at 3 pumps up to 10 pumps.
It was dumping up to 20 pumps and going through both sides of one can and
one side of another at 12 pumps. My hands were getting a bit sore with
all the pumping and I moved back to about 5 meters. Re-sited in for 3 pumps
and had a go offhand. I was taking it back inside as Edna came through
the gate, coming back from visiting with the neighbors. I asked her if
she'd like to try it and she said yes. |
I love inteligent women. She listened to what I said then did it right the
first time. I only needed to explain it once and she had it.
She took to this gun like a duck takes to water. First shot was very low
so I went over the sight picture again explaining the importance of keeping everything
in alignment while breaking the shot. |
smaller target paper her first shot was touching center white. All of this
was with 3 pumps. So I asked her to see how many pumps she could put on the
gun. She started shooting 5 pupmps and a couple of times went up
to 10. All this without help from me. Then her groups stared to open
up a bit and I think she was getting tired. We set up some tin cans and
she enjoyed seeing the cans jump when hit. She loves the gun and has no problems handling it. In fact it's the only gun I have... er... we have.... er..... she has that she can shoot. She doesn't like it on 3 pumps because it's not powerful enough. She likes to shoot it with 5 pumps and when I told her it would take Tukmo on 12 pumps out to about 25 meters her eyes got big, I mean really big and she got this silly grin on her face. I think she's a power freak. |
Overview: |
I'll paint it up and re-install the safety and stock trigger assembly. Edna
wants a heavier trigger pull so it will be more like a firearm than a target pistol.
We have a CZ Compact 9mm that's in her name. I have only
fired it once and Edna never has. I'll take her out and teach her
how to use it when the gun ban is over. For now at least she can
practice with the 1377 and If I know Edna she'll be oushooting me with cartridge
guns too. Well, I may have lost an airgun but I think I found a shooting partner and thats a good trade in my book anytime. |
