This is an ineresting airgun. It's very rough in apearance, hard to cock and
has a heavy trigger pull. My first impression was: "Functional with no
frills". In shooting it is "Military" in every way and
it kicks hard. I like it but it's not something you will want to shoot all
day. |
The IZH mp-513 is also a scope buster. |
I put a Leapers 3 - 9 x 32 on it and after 150 or so shots lost all vertical adjustment.
Also the POI would shift up to 6 inches every 5 to 10 shots.
For me its an iron sighted gun. |
the trigger is adjustable for length of pull but I have not been able to significanly
lighten the pull weight. That's OK for me. The heavy trigger
is smooth and quite usable. It adds to the personality of the gun in
my opinion. |

.177 cal Cannon on a stick! |
Baikal IZH MP-513 |
I like the hammer but if you use a scope it's position makes the gun hard to cock.
Power is more than you will ever need in .177.
This airgun should probably be .22 cal to take advantage of the powerplant. |
The accuracy is OK but not great. I think the fact that springers are a bit
hard to shoot anyway combined with the hard recoil will make it difficult to master
this one and I'm not that good with open sights anyway. |
Overall Impressions. |
I haven't recrowned the barrel, tuned or otherwise worked with this gun. I
only removed the annoying rachet system on the cocking lever. The MP-513
is a hard hitting fairly accurate no frills "thumper". It should serve well
as a moderate range lightweight hunter for good sized game. It is not
a refined target rifle but it seems to be a real workhorse of an airgun and if
it holds up and the power remains constant it has a place in my airgun arsenal.
When I'm feeling rude and crude and I get a bit power mad and just want to smash the living hell out of something, nothing I have will do it quite so well as the 513. Tin cans full of water at 25 meters are a ball! |
